This program will focus on the latest issues regarding the legalization of cannabis. Speakers will discuss the implementation of cannabis licenses; retail stores; banking issues; and real estate leases and acquisitions. The legalization of cannabis has been challenging in light of the current status of federal marijuana legalization, which is still pending in Congress. On the local level, states have been faced with the difficulty of reconciling cannabis legalization in light of the fear of punishment and sanctions from Washington. Of equal importance is whether the economic opportunities and benefits afforded by the business of cannabis are being distributed in an equitable and fair manner. The need for fair cannabis policies in light of racial disparities and inequities must be considered and enforced.
